A group of work colleagues, friends and family are organising ?The Volleball? as a fundraising event to support Peter Vollebergh and his family and we need your help! As most of you will be aware this is a fundraising event to support Peter and his family in meeting the costs of the many modifications that need to be made to their home and car. Peter will be coming home later in the year, and will also require such things as on-going rehabilitation treatment. For those receiving this information for the first time, at the beginning of this year Peter severely injured his neck while body surfing on a family summer holiday. Formally diagnosed as a quadriplegic, Peter has worked hard and made painstaking progress at a local rehabilitation centre and his family are looking forward to him returning home. Peter has always made time in his life to support the community. He?s contributed to many different organisations, including coaching Auskick and junior cricket, local government, Yarralea Children?s Centre committee, Alphington Primary School, the Victorian Field Naturalists, and Darebin parklands. He also completed the 50 km Yarra Upstream Challenge late last year to raise money for Beyond Blue and the Leprosy Mission Australia. In his work, Peter has contributed significantly to natural resource management through his role at the Department of Sustainability and Environment for the last 20 years. We hope The Volleball goes some way to showing our appreciation to Peter for the impact that he's made to the community and on us. The $75 ticket includes dinner and some drinks, prizes, entertainment, and most importantly, a donation and the opportunity to donate further through purchasing items through a silent auction. Its also a good opportunity to catch up with friends and work colleagues. As part of the fundraising event on 14 August 2009, we are seeking items to auction to raise money and I invite you or your organisation to consider donating an item or service. Please reply by return email to phil.mitchell@dse.vic.gov.au if you can help us in donating an item or service for auction or get in touch with the organising group members - Phil (9637 9943), Tori (9637 8804) or Sam (9637 8594) if you need to discuss this further. And a big thank you to the many people that have already made offers for the auction and to help. In addition, please confirm your intention to attend The VolleBall by this Friday (July 18) as the final decision on the venue is dependent on numbers and we need to 'lock things in'. Either book online at the River Basin Management Society website (www.rbms.com.au) or email phil.mitchell@dse.vic.gov.au or phone (03) 9637 9943. Alternatively, if you are unable to attend but would like to contribute somehow, credit card donations can be made online at www.rbms.com.au. I would like to thank the River Basin Management Society for making their website available for processing donations and bookings. Please pass this information on to other people within your organisation who may know Peter, or who may like to join us. I hope you can be part of this important effort and I look forward to seeing you there.
